Happy Birthday Roger Craig
In January of ‘85 during Super Bowl XIX Roger Craig became the first player to score 3 touchdowns in a Super Bowl, as he helped the 49ers wallop the Miami Dolphins 38-16. He’s also known for being the first running back in NFL history to record 1,000 rushing yards & 1,000 receiving yards in the same season. (1985) Happy Birthday Roger !!
R.I.P. - Joe Delaney
Today we’re remembering Kansas City Chiefs Running Back Joe Delaney . The 1981 rookie of the year only played in 23 career games, before his life was tragically cut short on June 29th, 1983. He risked, and ultimately lost his life trying to save three young boys who were drowning in a pond near his Louisiana home. Joe couldn’t swim himself, but laid it all on the line to try and save them. No-one since has worn the #37 for the Chiefs. RIP Joe
Longest INT Return in Browns History
The former Mr. Reggie Rutland holds the record for the longest INT return for a TD in Cleveland Browns history. The timing of the pick is really what I remember most about it. The INT came during the same 1993 game when Dan Marino blew out his achilles tendon. The southpaw Scott Mitchell was in for Miami and his very first throw was picked off my Najee and returned 97 yds for a touchdown. As a 12 year old Dolphins fan my world was upside down. Happy Birthday Mr. Mustafaa.
Summer Time Movie Night - Weekend At Bernie's
Terrell Buckley
In his first game in the NFL the 1992 # 5 overall pick Terrell Buckley had a 58 yard punt return in the 3rd quarter of a Week 3 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. The scamper made T-Buck the youngest player in NFL history to return a punt for a TD. (21 yrs 105 days) This game is mostly remembered because it was also the debut of Brett Favre for Green Bay as he replaced the ‘Majik Man’ Don Majkowski. Favre would go on to start the next 16 years as the Packers QB. Meanwhile ‘Baby Deion’ went on to record at least one INT in 13 straight seasons, and is the only player with 50+ career interceptions to never make a Pro Bowl. Happy Birthday Terrell !!
On This Day in 1992 - World Bowl II
June 6th, 1992
Olympic Stadium
Montreal, Canada
Quarterback David Archer guides the Sacramento Surge back from a 17-6 deficit entering the 4th quarter to a 22-17 victory. His 22 of 33 passing for 286 yds & 2 Touchdowns earned him Game MVP honors. Both the Surge & the Scott Mitchell led Orlando Thunder entered the 2nd World Bowl with identical 8-2 records and the championship clash would be the last game played by either franchise. This was also the last WLAF game played until the league returned in 1995 with all the teams located in Europe.
Larry Centers
Larry Centers was the 1st running back in NFL history to record 100 receptions in a season. In 1995, the 3 time pro bowler pulled in 101 passes for 962 yards. He went on to catch 99 in 1996, and is the all-time leader in receptions for a running back with 827. Happy Birthday Larry!!
Happy Birthday - Sammie Smith
Sammie Smith lasted only 3 years with the Dolphins after they selected the former FSU Running Back 9th Overall in 1989. He was pretty much run out of town during the 1991 season when he had fumbles at the goal line in back to back games. I can remember kinda feeling bad for they guy when everybody started chanting ‘Sammie Sucks’ Happy Birthday Sammie! Hope all is well.
R.I.P. - Rodney Culver Amongst Victims of Valujet Flight 592 Crash
Today we’re remembering RB Rodney Culver, his wife Karen, & the 108 other members aboard Valujet Flight 592 which crashed into the Florida Everglades on May 11th, 1996. Rodney was a captain at Notre Dame & part of their ‘88 Championship team, and the almost Championship season of ‘91. The 12th and final touchdown of his short, 4 year, pro career was during the Infamous ‘Snowball Game’ between the San Diego Chargers & New York Giants on December 23rd, 1995.
Visors Were So Cool!!
Happy B-Day to Leslie O’Neal & Ronnie Harmon. The shielded Chargers duo of the early 90′s both had Pro Bowl years in 1992. O’Neal led the AFC with a career high 17 sacks, while Harmon, the dual threat out of the backfield had a career year of his own hauling in 79 passes for over 900 yds.

During this Pro Bowl Season of 1975 6 of his 8 Touchdowns he scored went for 50 yards or more. Actually he was the only receiver in the league to eclipse the 1,000 yd mark in ‘75. (1,063yds)
