Cleveland Browns

R.I.P Eric Turner

Safety Eric Turner was the 2nd overall pick of the 1991 draft by the Cleveland Browns. The UCLA Bruin is the highest selected Defensive Back in Draft history. Turner earned the first of his two Pro Bowl selections in 1994 when he tied for the league lead with 9 Interceptions, including a huge pick in the ‘94 AFC Wildcard game against New England where Cleveland pulled out their last playoff win, 20-13. Sadly E-Rock passed away in 2000 at age 31 from cancer. Happy Birthday! R.I.P.

Bob Golic

Wishing a Happy Birthday 63rd birthday to everyone’s favorite Resident Adviser, Bob Golic. Did you know the Cleveland Browns Nose Tackle earned Pro Bowl Honors for 3 straight seasons from 1985-87?

Tommy '2 point' Tupa

For today’s Throwback Thursday we’re going back to Week 1 of the 1994 NFL Season. During a Cleveland Browns & Cincinnati Bengals battle, our dude Tommy Tupa grabs the distinction of being the first player in NFL History to score a 2 point conversion. The 2 point rule had just been adopted that season, and Tom & The Browns took advantage of it. He would run in three extra point attempts for Two that year earning himself the nickname of ‘Two Point Tupa.’ Happy Birthday Tom!

Return Man Eric Metcalf

Speedster Eric Metcalf’s 12 return touchdowns is good for 3rd All-Time. He is also one of only two players in NFL History to have 2 punt return Touchdowns in multiple games. He took two returns to the house against the Steelers in 1993 as a member of the Browns & did it again for San Diego in 1998. Happy Birthday Eric!

MDP

Big brother William ‘The Fridge’ Perry got all of the attention and limelight, but it was little bro, Michael Dean Perry, who had himself one hell of an NFL career. MDP was a 6x pro-bowler, 2x 1st Team All-Pro, 2x 2nd Team All-Pro, & the 1989 AFC Defensive Player of the Year. He even had his own burger at Cleveland area McDonalds called the ‘MDP’ It was basically a Big Mac with an extra patty & bacon. Happy Birthday Michael Dean !!

Longest INT Return in Browns History

The former Mr. Reggie Rutland holds the record for the longest INT return for a TD in Cleveland Browns history. The timing of the pick is really what I remember most about it. The INT came during the same 1993 game when Dan Marino blew out his achilles tendon. The southpaw Scott Mitchell was in for Miami and his very first throw was picked off my Najee and returned 97 yds for a touchdown. As a 12 year old Dolphins fan my world was upside down. Happy Birthday Mr. Mustafaa.
