Green Bay Packers
Happy Birthday to The Majik Man
Happy B-Day to the ‘Majik Man’ (7) Don Majkowski who in 1989 topped the NFL in passing with 4,319 yards and had 27 touchdowns. Majik led the ‘Cardiac Pack’ to a 10-6 record. Green Bay’s best record since 1972.
Paul Hornung - R.I.P. Golden Boy
R.I.P - Did you know that Running Back Paul Hornung is the only player to win the Heisman Trophy from a losing team? When ‘Golden Boy’ took home the hardware in 1956 his Notre Dame squad finished at a lousy 2-8. Paul led his team in the following Categories:
Passing
Rushing
Scoring
Kickoff & Punt Returns
Punting
He also played defense and led his team in passes broken up and was second in interceptions and tackles made. R. I. P. Golden Boy
Tim Harris
The 1989 Green Bay Packers finished 10-6, their best record since 1972, with 4 of those wins coming by just 1 point. The ‘Cardiac Pack’ defense was led by our dude, Tim Harris, who led the NFL with a career high 19.5 sacks in ‘89. Happy Birthday Tim!!
Terrell Buckley
In his first game in the NFL the 1992 # 5 overall pick Terrell Buckley had a 58 yard punt return in the 3rd quarter of a Week 3 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. The scamper made T-Buck the youngest player in NFL history to return a punt for a TD. (21 yrs 105 days) This game is mostly remembered because it was also the debut of Brett Favre for Green Bay as he replaced the ‘Majik Man’ Don Majkowski. Favre would go on to start the next 16 years as the Packers QB. Meanwhile ‘Baby Deion’ went on to record at least one INT in 13 straight seasons, and is the only player with 50+ career interceptions to never make a Pro Bowl. Happy Birthday Terrell !!
