Detroit Pistons
Highest Scoring NBA Game
On December 13th, 1983 an obscure cast of late night east coast cable TV watchers bore witness to the highest scoring game in NBA History. The Detroit Pistons topped the Denver Nuggets 186-184 in a 3OT mile high marathon. Isiah Thomas led the victorious Pistons with 47 points and 17 assists. Nugget Kiki Vandeweghe led all scorers with 51.

Burn of The Week - Vinnie 'The Microwave' Johnson
This installment of the Blaze ‘Burn of The Week’ goes out to our man Vinnie Johnson. The man known as ‘The Microwave’ sure heated up late in Game 5 of the 1990 NBA Finals. Vinnie torched the Portland Trailblazers for 15 fourth quarter points including the game winner with 00.7 seconds left giving the Detroit Pistons their second consecutive NBA Championship.
Rick Mahorn
After winning a NBA Championship with the 1988-89 Detroit Pistons, the baddest ‘Bad Boy’ of them all, Rick Mahorn, was left unprotected in the 1989 Expansion Draft. Consequently Rick ended up being selected second overall by the upstart Minnesota Timberwolves. Mahorn would never actually play for the Wolves though, instead he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers where he & Sir Charles Barkley teamed up for two seasons forming the duo known as ‘Thump & Bump.’ Happy Birthday Rick!
