Nolan Ryan's Final Appearance

On September 22nd, 1993 Pitcher Nolan Ryan made the final appearance of his storied career. Ryan’s elbow finally called in quits in the 1st Inning of a 7-4 Rangers loss to the Seattle Mariners. The 46 year old finished his 27 year career with 5,714 strikeouts, 324 Wins, and 7 No-Hitters!

Any Baseball Nerds out there who can tell the class the last batter that Nolan faced?

Jose Throws a Few

May 29th, 1993 - After allowing a ball to bounce off his head for a Homerun a few days before, Jose Canseco escalated the wackiness of his week by taking the mound for the Rangers during the 8th inning of a blowout loss to the Boston Red Sox. Jose gave up two hits, walked three, while allowing two runs in the eventual 15-1 loss to Boston. Worse yet, is that Jose had to undergo Tommy John Surgery a few months later and never threw another pitch in his career.

By the way, that side note about a non-pitcher referred to Rangers Shortstop Jeff Kunkel who moved to the mound for 1.2 innings deep in a 19-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins. Jeff gave up 4 runs on 4 hits, & walked three.

Call Him Pass Ball Petralli

Our man Geno Petralli had quite the bad day back on August 30th, 1987, when he stepped in behind the plate to catch ole’ knuckleballer Charlie Hough. In the afternoon affair against the Detroit Tigers, Geno would allow a record 6 passed balls, allowing the Tigers to score 7 unearned runs, in their 7-0 win. Petralli had a record 35 passed balls in ‘87, with 32 of them coming while trying to wrangle in one of Charlie’s knucklers. He’s also the weirdo who bit Bo Jackson in 1993, during the infamous Nolan Ryan vs Robin Ventura dust up.
