Happy Birthday Cecil Fielder!! Cecil hit 51 Home Runs back in 1990 becoming first MLB player to reach 50 or more homers since 1977. Who out there can name the slugger who hit 52 that season?
Detroit Tigers
Bird's Best Bud -Bruce Kimm
Birthday shout out to former Detroit Tigers catcher Bruce Kimm. He was pitcher Mark ‘ The Bird’ Fidrychs’ personal catcher for the 1976 season when Bird went 19-6, & won Rookie of Year honors. On August 17th, 1976 Bruce hit the one & only Homer of his career off Angels pitcher Frank Tanana during a Tigers 3-2 victory.
Remember Lance Parrish's Fluorescent Catchers Mitt?
Happy Birthday to longtime Detroit Tigers Catcher Lance Parrish. I remember being envious of all those other little league catchers who had his model black Catchers mitt with fluorescent orange sides.
'Sweet' Lou Whitaker
Happy Birthday Lou Whitaker! Sweet Lou maned 2nd base for the Detroit Tigers from 1978 until he retired in 1995. The 5x All-Star teamed with Shortstop Alan Trammell to form the longest running Double Play Duo in Baseball. Who out there remembers when they both played themselves in an episode of Magnum P.I. back in 1983?
