Center Fielder Cesar Geronimo was an integral part of the 1970’s Cincinnati Reds ‘Big Red Machine.’ The defensive wizard won four straight gold gloves from 1974-1977.
Cesar is featured here for another reason than his swift glove. He owns the Doobieous Distinction of being the 3,000th strike out victim of not one, but two Hall of Fame Pitchers.

1990 World Series Game 1
On October 16th, 1990 Cincinnati Red CF Eric Davis bashed a bottom of the 1st two run Homer off Oakland A’s Ace Dave’ Smoke’ Stewart. ‘Eric the Red’ became just the 22nd player in MLB history to hit a HR in their first World Series at bat. The Reds would win Game One 7-0 and eventually go on to sweep the A’s. Did you know this was the 2nd World Series in a row that ended in a sweep.? Oakland had actually swept the San Francisco Giants the year prior. 1990 is the last time either the Reds or Athletics have appeared in the World Series.

On This Day - Robby Thompson Caught Stealing 4 Times
On June 27th, 1986 San Francisco Giants second baseman Robby Thompson became the 1st MLB player to be caught stealing 4 times in one game! Three of those outs occurred during attempted hit and run plays, but were officially recorded as a stolen base attempts. Catcher Bo Diaz threw out Robby three times at 2nd while he was also picked off by Pitcher John Franco in the 11th inning. The Giants held on in extras for the 7-6 victory.
