1992 MLB Expansion Draft

Lets go back to November 17th, 1992 and the MLB Expansion Draft featuring the Colorado Rockies & Florida Marlins. With the first selection Colorado selected pitcher David Nied. He owns the distinction of throwing the first pitch in Rockies history. He’s also the last Colorado player to wear # 17 before Todd Helton came aboard. With the 2nd selection Florida picked outfielder Nigel Wilson. Nigel would never record a hit for the Marlins, going 0-16 with 11 strikeouts in his short time with the club. He did go on to play in Japan for six seasons, batting .265 with 337 RBI & 119 HR.

Here is a great three part article looking back at Expansion Drafts in baseball.

Name That Hurricane ??

This Miami Hurricane won the 1993 Big East Defensive Player of the Year Award as a Senior at The U.

He also earned First Team All-American honors that season.

He was an integral part in the Canes 1991 National Championship season, as well as the runner up campaign of 1992. He finished his career at Miami with 174 career tackles & 23 sacks, good for 5th all time.

He also happens to be from my hometown of Lake Worth, Florida. I have a memory of his younger step brother Kyle being on my pee wee football team.

Can you name that Cane??
